about me

Hi, i'm pollie and I make stuff! Born where the river meets the sea, in Montevideo, Uruguay and raised in Ontario, Canada I grew up always loving to create. In school I studied visual arts gaining a wealth of knowledge, and experience with a variety of media. Eventually I felt the need to pop my art school bubble and expand my worldview, so I traveled and dabbled, working and volunteering in various fields but was always drawn back towards creative pursuits.

As I embraced a broader aesthetic apppreciation for styles like outsider/folk art and traditionally feminine handicrafts, I realized that the art I most engage with lives outside of "fine" art spaces. It permeates everyday experiences to special occasions and is expressed through gifts given and in our personal styles and spaces.

I also found that my sometimes scrambled brain really benefited from working with my hands and the mindful process of playing with materials, techniques and ideas. So having rid myself of some lofty ideals of what Art should be I rediscovered the joy of creating and now proudly identify as a Craftist!

cuevacraft was born of my compulsive need to accumulate and create things. As my collection of materials, tools and found objects grew over the years, my home studio became known as my "cueva" (spanish for cave). Drawing on myriad inspirations and my treasure trove of materials, I've devoted myself to making fun and tactile pieces. Through creating I get to celebrate my love for colour, pattern and texture and I hope to share that joy with you!
